Convert JPEG to JP2

File Extension JPEG
Full Name JPEG Bitmap Image Format

Files with the .JPEG extension contain lossy compressed images recorded in a standardized format created by the Joint Photographic Experts Group – JPEG for short - as well as metadata of this image, such as space and color profile, as well as image dimensions. The color scale of the image can be up to 24-bit.

File Extension JP2
Full Name JPEG 2000 Image Format (ISO 15444-1) Format

Files with the .JP2 extension contain a compressed bitmap image creating using JPEG-2000 Core Coding. It is different from standardized JPEG files in that it uses a different type of algorithm during compression – one based on discrete wavelet transform – this allows for a non-lossy compression.

What is file format conversion?

File format conversion is the process of transforming a file from one format (referred to as "JPEG") to another (referred to as "JP2"). This may be necessary for various reasons. For example, JPEG file may be incompatible with the software or device we want to use to open or edit it. In such cases, converting the file from format JPEG to format JP2 becomes essential.

So, how can we perform JPEG to JP2 file conversion? Fortunately, there are many tools and computer programs available that enable file format conversion. These tools work by reading the data from the file in format JPEG and transforming it into format JP2. This allows the preservation of the original information contained in the file, even after changing its format. Below you will find a list of JPEG to JP2 converters.

Conversion from JPEG to JP2

How to convert the JPEG file to JP2?

If you have already downloaded one of the converters and installed it on your computer, you can proceed to the appropriate conversion process of JPEG to JP2. Handling all the programs is usually very intuitive and is based on the same pattern of conduct. We will briefly discuss a few steps that you always need to go through while changing the format of the JPEG file:

  • Please indicate on your computer the source file JPEG, the format of which you are going to change
  • Load the JPEG file to the application
  • Select the output format of the JP2 file (the one that we want to achieve)
  • Select the location to save the output file JP2 on the disk (the place where the program will save the converted file)
  • Confirm conversion
  • Wait for a moment
  • Enjoy the converted JP2 file that can be found in the location selected in step 4
