MCA (also referred to as ‘Anvil’) is a map file format used by computer game Minecraft. MCA replaced older MCR files used for the same purpose. MCA is a considerable advance over its predecessor as it offer many enhancements such as increased block limit or added compression features useful for larger and more complex designs.
Minecraft was released in 2009 and since 2014 it is owned by Microsoftu. The game itself is available for many different system platforms, yet MCA files are only supported by Minecraft Java Edition for PC.

How to associate the file with an installed software?
If you want to associate a file with a new program (e.g. my-file.MCA) you have two ways to do it. The first and the easiest one is to right-click on the selected MCA file. From the drop-down menu select "Choose default program", then click "Browse" and find the desired program. The whole operation must be confirmed by clicking OK. The second and more difficult to do is associate the MCA file extension to the corresponding software in the Windows Registry.
Is there one way to open unknown files?
Many files contain only simple text data.
