What is a ODP file?
File with an .ODP extension contains a presentation comprised of slides containing graphics, texts, multimedia objects and transition effects, music. The file is stored in the OpenDocument format, based on the XML OASIS. ODP presentations are created in the Impress program, which is a component of the office package Apache OpenOffice, also known as OpenOffice.org
Apache OpenOffice is a free office software. The Impress program has a functionality similar to PowerPoint of the paid Microsoft Office package, default format in which data is stored in Microsoft are PPT and PPTX files. Also other programs can store data into ODP files.

How to associate the file with an installed software?
If you want to associate a file with a new program (e.g. my-file.ODP) you have two ways to do it. The first and the easiest one is to right-click on the selected ODP file. From the drop-down menu select "Choose default program", then click "Browse" and find the desired program. The whole operation must be confirmed by clicking OK. The second and more difficult to do is associate the ODP file extension to the corresponding software in the Windows Registry.
Is there one way to open unknown files?
Many files contain only simple text data. It is possible that while opening unknown files (e.g. ODP) with a simple text editor like Windows Notepad will allow us to see some of the data encoded in the file.
